When properly presented, this is one of the cleverest of coin tricks! Four coins are shown on a table or desk. They are two nickels, a penny and a dime. The total value is twenty-one cents. The magician picks up one coin at a time and places them into the palm of his left hand. He counts the value of each coin as it is placed into the palm, until all coins or a total of twenty-one cents are in the palm.
He now removes a nickel from his hand and places it into his right pants pocket. He closes his left hand over the “remaining coins” and asks how much is left. The answer should be sixteen cents. However, when the fist is opened, the sixteen cents are gone! He then removes the nickel from his pants pocket and it may be freely examined.
