Effect: The magician displays a silk handkerchief, and then causes it to vanish. A spectator examines a polished brass tube while the magician lights a large firecracker. Just before the fuse burns down and the firecracker explodes, the magician places the firecracker into the examined tube and then hands it to the spectator. After waiting expectantly for a few moments with his fingers in his ears, the magician decides that the firecracker must have been a dud. The spectator opens the tube to see and discovers the missing handkerchief inside the tube. Upon thanking the spectator, the vanished firecracker is found hanging from the spectator's back.
