Slydini On Ascanio

For many years, I heard other magicians say that Ascanio always dreamed about Slydini and hoped to know me.

One day in Paris, a magician told me: "Ascanio always talks about you. Why don't you send him a postcard?" I sent him one. Receiving my postcard was a big surprise for him. A few days later, I received the longest and most beautiful letter that I have ever received from anyone else. This letter made me decide to meet Ascanio some day.

Around 1958, I was in a lecture tour throughout Europe and I had been booked to lecture in Barcelona and Madrid. Then, I met Arturo de Ascanio. After he saw my lecture, he told me: "Everything is justified! I thought you worked fast. That's why I couldn't do your magic."

So we became friends. We spent a little time together. Ascanio showed me some of his magic. Believe me, I know magic and by this time, I should know what is good. I want to say Ascanio is one of the best close-up magicians in Europe: Not only for the tricks created by him but also for his presentation, grace, and personality. I like his own misdirection, his very unusual style to present magic, and the way he expresses himself.

Ascanio is not very well-known in this country because we speak a different language from his. He is well-known, one of the best, all over Europe and Latin America.

Ascanio is a fine lawyer and very intelligent. Besides, he is very good writer and if he writes books on magic he must have a lot of knowledge. The book he wrote on magic of the knives has been a big success in all Spain and Latin America.
